"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Summertime....and the living is easy

It's been nearly a week since the end of school. I keep having the nagging feeling that I should be marking papers or planning lessons...or working in some way. I just take deep breath and remind myself that I have a whole summer ahead of me, that August would be a good time to reflect on my class plans and to just let go and float on the marvelous feeling of NOTHING TO DO!!!!

We are leaving on Saturday to take our boat on a two week cruise to the northern tip of Georgian Bay. Both Grant and I are relatively neophyte boaters (oh, who am I trying to kid...I am a completely neophyte boater)and, as such, are somewhat nervous about this trip. At the same time, we are ridiculously excited. We are going with a group from our marina, which is a great opportunity to meet people to boat with and to have some folks around who actually know what they're doing on the water. We are looking forward to beautiful scenery and fun companionship.

And not drowning...

Trying to remember why I changed careers...

I spent twelve hours yesterday marking papers.

Twelve. Hours.

For those who don't think that teachers should get two months off in the summer, I say "Ha!" I invite you to join me in deciphering the cryptic scrawl of a 12 year old boy, in wading through a pile of grammar and spelling mistakes, and in trying to relieve the inevitable writer's cramp after a typical evening. Then we can spend a few more hours planning our lessons for this week.

Takers?

I thought not.
